Chapter 10 - Round Tables and Bylaws

 

10.011 OLA has the following active Round Tables

10.01101 Legal Reference Round Table (LRRT): The objectives of LRRT shall be to provide a practical framework for information sharing, continuing education opportunities, professional interactions, and a support system to those library workers engaged in providing legal reference services in all types of Oregon libraries. This organization shall aim to share ideas, plan, and improve legal reference services in and among libraries and foster fellowship, cooperation, and professionalism among its members.

10.01102 Documents Interest Group of Oregon (DIGOR): The objectives of DIGOR shall be to provide opportunities for communication, education and cooperation among the government information library community, and to improve access to government information by all.

10.01103 Library Assessment Round Table (LART): The objectives of LART shall be to provide a practical framework for information sharing, continuing education opportunities, professional interactions, and a support system to those library workers engaged in library assessment in all types of Oregon libraries. This organization shall aim to share ideas, plan, and improve library assessment activities in and among libraries and foster fellowship, cooperation, and professionalism among its members.

10.01104 Outreach Round Table (ORT): The objectives of ORT shall be to provide a framework for information sharing, continuing education and moral support for library workers currently providing outreach services; and to offer opportunities for networking and encouragement to libraries wishing to expand or develop library outreach services.

10.01105 Technical Services Round Table (TSRT): The objectives of TSRT shall be to provide a framework for information sharing, continuing education and moral support for library workers currently engaged in technical services activities. Specifically, the aims are to provide for the exchange of ideas on technical services and automation processes, systems, and policies; to provide a medium for the exploration of new ideas and technologies; to foster cooperation among all Oregon libraries in the areas of technical services and automation; and to increase an awareness in the library community of the roles of technical and automation services.

10.01106 Reference Round Table (RRT): The objectives of RRT shall be to provide a practical framework for information sharing, continuing education opportunities, professional interactions, and a support system to those library workers engaged in reference services in all types of Oregon libraries. This organization shall aim to share ideas, plan, and improve reference services in and among libraries and foster fellowship, cooperation, and professionalism among its members.

10.01107. Past Presidents Round Table (PPRT): The objectives of PPRT shall be: 1) to enliven the OLA conference by working for the participation of all OLA members in the programs and activities of the conference; 2) to encourage library administrators, library staff and library supporters to be actively involved in professional library activities at the local, state, regional, or national level, and; 3) to support the office of OLA President.

10.0108 Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT): LIRT shall be formed to promote library instruction as a means to empower library users to become life-long learners; to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and materials; to foster continuing educational opportunities; and to promote cooperation and fellowship among OLA members engaged in library instruction.

10.0109 International Relations Round Table (IRRT): The objectives of IRRT shall be to provide a framework for information sharing of librarians, library workers, and library supporters interested in international librarianship activities of all types of libraries. The specific aims of the IRRT are to increase the communication of OLA members from all types of libraries about the international visits, exchanges, and special programs in which OLA members are involved. To increase the general awareness of contributions made by Oregon librarians at the international level, IRRT will sponsor programs at the conference of the Oregon Library Association.


10.02 ARTICLE II MEMBERSHIP

10.021 Unless otherwise stated in this article, membership in Round Tables shall be opened to any OLA member interested in the objectives of the round table.

10.022 Membership in the following Round Tables is restricted as noted.

10.0221 Past Presidents Round Table (PPRT): Membership in PPRT shall be open to all OLA members who are past presidents of, OLA or an equivalent in another state, OASL (Oregon Association of School Libraries) - prior to its merger with OLA on July 1, 2012 - or its equivalent in another state, PNLA (Pacific Northwest Library Association) or its equivalent in another region, ALA (American Library Association) or any of its divisions, or an international professional library association.

10.023 A Round Table may establish or amend dues if approved by its membership and the OLA Executive Board.

10.03 ARTICLE III OFFICERS

10.031 Each Round Table shall have at least a Chair and Vice-Chair.

10.032. The Chair shall be elected annually on or near the Round Table's annual meeting. The Vice-Chair shall be appointed by the Chair and approved by the membership, or elected by the membership.

10.033 The term of office shall be one year or until a successor is elected or appointed.

10.034 In the case of a vacancy in the office of Chair, a special election shall be held to fill the position. In the case of a vacancy in the office of Vice-Chair, the Chair shall appoint a new individual to the office to be approved by the membership. In the case that there are no nominations for the special election to fill the Chair position, the OLA Executive Board may appoint a new Chair.

10.04 ARTICLE IV MEETINGS

10.041 Each Round Table shall hold at least one meeting annually.

10.042 Other meetings may be called by the Chair or by petition of at least five members.

10.043 At least ten percent or 3 people, whichever is higher, of the active membership of the Round Table shall constitute a quorum.

10.044 Minutes shall be taken at each meeting of the Round Table. The Vice-Chair or designee shall take the minutes, which shall be made available to the membership.

10.05 ARTICLE V ADMINISTRATION

10.051 Every Round Table shall submit an annual report to the OLA Executive Board at the end of the Association year.

10.052 This chapter may be amended by a majority vote of the OLA Executive Board. Revisions may be presented to the Executive Board by any Round Table. The OLA Parliamentarian shall check with Round Tables affected by the changes to ensure they are amenable.
